In a world where what you have makes you what you are, it's so easy to get wrapped up in buying the latest, looking your finest and having the best of the best. When it comes down to it, being healthy, happy and mentally at peace is worth more than any amount of shoes, bags and jewelry (And if you are wondering if I have had a life changing experience - the answer is no). Sometimes I need a little reminder to myself that striving for perfection is like striving after the wind... it's never going to happen. So while shopping and fashion are definitely my passion, I can't make it my life.
The warmer months are getting my creative juices going. I'm feeling inspired to travel, inspired to try new things, and of course, inspired to explore new looks. There's something to the whole vintage Summer vibe. Old cars, old movies in the park and throwback songs from a long, long time ago.
Along with that, the easiest way to be chic in the Summer is to go with the "retro lady look" a la Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe and my favorite- Audrey Hepburn. Bows tying back your hair, floral skirts and light cotton cardis. Perfect for cool evening walks, ice cream cones and bike rides along the beach. I think of when my mom was a girl, what she would have worn and who she would have styled her wardrobe after.
I'm going after classic 60's with a modern twist. You can own the look and go all in if you dare or just add a retro piece to what you're wearing to change things up. Feeling nostalgic?
Whenever I catch TheNotebook on TV I am trapped. It doesn't matter at what point it's on, how many times I've seen it, it just reels me in. It's one of my favorites, along with every other chick on earth. It's timeless, and it takes you on a lovely journey with the scenery, the time period and of course the clothes. Nothing like love and fashion...
My favorite line? When Noah writes Allie his last letter:
"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul..."
With the sun finally showing it's face the past few days I have been able to actually break out some of my cute Spring gear. Socks are off, arms are out and the bright colors and florals are here to play. I love the idea of mixing leopard with everything since it's now considered the new "neutral". I threw in a pop of color bag too and I was ready to roll. The best part was the jeans were from Nordstrom junior- (a steal) and the bag and heels were in my closet already. Nothing like a little remix...
