The Ups and Downs

2015 was definitely a year of highs and lows.  We bought a new house, moved to a quiet area (which I'm still trying to get used to), bought a new car, my husband started a new position and I started a new job.  Come to think of it, we changed a lot.  Those can be considered ups.  On the down side, our little Coconut had to battle for her life again.  After her fight with auto immune anemia she then had to deal with lymphoma. I tell you I hope I have as much strength as she does when my time comes. Sickness is such a thief of joy and peace.  Nothing matters when someone you love is sick.  I learned pretty fast that I didn't care about the new house, the new car or anything that wasn't going to make Coconut better.  Life isn't about what you have, it's about who you have. And I'm hoping that in 2016 I get to keep enjoying time with my loved ones. Because time is the most valuable thing you can have.

It's Official!

So I bit the bullet and self-published my book.  It's a small step in a long journey for me.  I have been writing this book for close to two years already, maybe longer.  Squeezing in time to write in between work, school, stressful events, a social life, tragedies and among other things.  It's part 1 of a two part series, and so I'm still not completely done, but it feels good to be halfway there and published, even if it is only part of a series.  I'm hoping that it resonates with young and the not so young women out there who never lose sight of their dreams and who always try to better themselves.  I was never one to settle or be complacent.  Everyone who knows me, knows that- they can see that just by how many times I move.  Maybe my second hobby should be house flipping?

Anyway, I'm excited to see where this book goes.  It is a story dear to my heart and I'm hoping it will be dear to yours too.

Sohl in the City - In the Country

Sometimes I forget how charming the area where I live can be.  The farm land, the chickens- yes chickens, and sheep and horses are close by too.  Don't get me wrong, I would trade it in a second for a quaint little apartment in the West Village.  But New Jersey has some perks.  It's always quiet when we come home.  So peaceful, that in the Summer I would hear frogs and all sorts of animal species chirping in the night.  It almost felt like being back in Florida.  There's a certain calm about green grass, open blue skies and horse farms.  You can almost feel transported... But when I need a wake up call, NYC is only 45 minutes away.  Do I love it?  No.  But it's growing on me, and I'm finding little spots here and there that are adding to its charm.

17 Years and Counting!

This past weekend was our 17 year anniversary, and every year I say the same thing.  How has it been this (insert number here) years?  Honestly, I still feel 21 years old, well maybe not some mornings- but for the most part, mentally I am not as old as I really am.  Don't get me wrong- Life (you beast) has aged me a bit, and I have certainly grown up in the past ten years (especially), but I often wonder if I'm going to feel this way when I'm say - 50?  Which truth be told is closer now then 21 is.  SCARY.

However, I'm not complaining, for at this moment, right now, things are well.  We are all here, (Coconut too) and there is a little inner peace at the moment.  I don't know how long it will last so I'm going to take it all in.  I'm grateful to be here, celebrating with my loved ones.  Every day is a blessing.
